As of October 2026, Asana costs $10.99 per user per month on Starter and $24.99 on Advanced, billed yearly ($13.49 and $30.49 monthly). The free Personal plan is capped at 2 users. Above 5 users, seats are sold in blocks of 5, so a 6-person team pays for 10. AI requests beyond a small monthly allowance cost $0.50 to $0.60 each.

Everything below was read from asana.com/pricing and Asana's Help Center on 27 October 2026. Where Asana's own pages disagree with each other, or with the guides that rank for this query, we say which figure the vendor page shows.

The yearly discount is about 19% on both paid plans. Starter is where most small teams land: it adds timeline and Gantt views, forms, custom fields, reporting and automations. Advanced adds portfolios, goals, resource management, approvals and proofing, and time tracking. A Timesheets and Budgets add-on is offered on Starter, Advanced and Enterprise, without a public price.

The free plan: 2 users, not 15

If you search for Asana's free plan, you will find three different numbers: 15 users, 10 users and 2 users. Only one is current.

  • asana.com/pricing lists Personal as "$0" for "2 users", and its comparison table shows a user limit of "2 seats".
  • asana.com/plan/personal lists "Up to 2 users" as a key feature.
  • 15 users was the limit on Asana's old free tier, then called Basic. Many guides and comparison sites still repeat it.
  • 10 users appears in several 2024 and 2025 guides as the later limit.

Several third-party guides say the 2-user cap applies to accounts created on or after 12 November 2025, and that older free accounts may keep a larger legacy allowance. We could not confirm that date on Asana's own pages, so treat it as unverified. What Asana's own pages say today is simple: a new free account holds 2 people. Asana's Help Center adds that if you downgrade a team with more active users than the limit, you are asked to remove people, who then lose access to the workspace while their work history stays.

For a team of three or more, then, Asana is a paid product from day one.

How Asana counts seats: the block rule

This is the rule that surprises people. Asana's pricing FAQ says that between 2 and 5 total users you add seats one at a time, but beyond that you buy them in blocks:

Total usersSeats are added in blocks of
2 to 51
Up to 305
Up to 10010
Up to 50025
More than 50050

A second answer on the same FAQ words the boundaries slightly differently, so the edges at exactly 30 and 100 are ambiguous. For a small team the effect is clear: a sixth person moves you from 5 paid seats to 10, and an eleventh moves you to 15.

Here is what that does to a bill, using the yearly rates:

People on the teamSeats you pay forStarter per monthAdvanced per month
33$32.97$74.97
55$54.95$124.95
610$109.90$249.90
1010$109.90$249.90
1215$164.85$374.85
1515$164.85$374.85

The jump from 5 to 6 people doubles the bill. Once you are inside a block, the next few hires are free until you cross into the next one. If you are at 6 or 11 people, plan your Asana budget as if you were already at 10 or 15.

Asana also says all paid plans let you add unlimited members, and its comparison table mentions "up to 2 seats per project and team" for Personal. Those lines describe sharing limits, not the billing rule above. Guests outside your email domain are a separate question; check the current Help Center article on guests before you assume they are free.

Asana's AI: three separate layers

Asana's AI is not one feature with one price. In October 2026 it is billed in three layers, and each has its own allowance.

Layer 1: AI requests for AI Teammates and Asana Dash

Asana defines an AI request as "one successful unit of work executed by AI Teammates or Asana Dash". AI Teammates are agents that work inside projects: they break work into subtasks, draft updates and leave comments for people to review.

  • Included: Starter and Advanced include 5 requests per user per month, up to 50 per account. Enterprise and Enterprise+ include up to 250 per account.
  • Usage packs: $0.50 per request, prepaid and billed upfront, valid for the contract term.
  • Pay as you go: $0.60 per request, billed monthly, with an optional monthly spend cap.

Asana's product-specific terms, dated 31 August 2026, add that included requests refresh monthly, are shared across the account, and that failed or timed-out requests do not count. One pricing tracker dates the per-request meter to mid-October 2026; Asana's pages do not print a launch date, so we cannot confirm it.

The account cap matters more than the per-user figure. A 10-person team gets 50 requests a month. So does a 30-person team, because the cap is 50.

Layer 2: AI Studio credits

AI Studio is Asana's no-code builder for AI workflows, and it runs on credits rather than requests. Every paid plan includes the Basic tier, with rate limits:

PlanAI Studio credits included per billing account per month
Starter50,000
Advanced75,000
Enterprise and Enterprise+200,000

Layer 3: AI Studio Plus and Pro

Above Basic sit two paid tiers. Plus is available on monthly and annual billing; Asana's Help Center says an annual Plus subscription includes 100,000 credits that reset each month, with extra credits sold in blocks of 100,000. Pro is annual only, aimed at larger operations, and requires an approved list of builders. Neither price appears on the public pricing page, so you will need to ask Asana or check inside your account.

What the AI layers cost a small team

Take a 5-person team on Starter that leans on AI Teammates for about 200 requests a month. The plan includes 25 (5 users × 5). The other 175 at the pay-as-you-go rate of $0.60 come to $105 a month, which is nearly double the $54.95 seat bill. Prepaid packs bring that to $87.50, but you commit upfront for the contract term.

If you use AI lightly, the included allowance may be enough. If you plan to hand real work to AI Teammates, estimate your request count before you sign, and set the spend cap.

The decision usually comes down to portfolios and goals. If leadership wants a roll-up of several projects, or you track objectives inside Asana, you need Advanced. If each team runs its own projects and reports in a weekly meeting, Starter covers it.

How to estimate your real Asana bill

  1. Count everyone who will sign in this year, not today. Include contractors who need edit access.
  2. Round up to Asana's block: to the next 5 above 5 users, the next 10 above 30.
  3. Multiply by $10.99 or $24.99 for yearly billing, or $13.49 or $30.49 for monthly.
  4. Estimate monthly AI requests. Subtract 5 per user, capped at 50 for the account. Multiply the rest by $0.60, or $0.50 if you will prepay.
  5. Add any add-ons you need, such as Timesheets and Budgets, and any other tools Asana does not replace: chat, docs, CRM, scheduling.

Our stack cost calculator does steps 1 to 3 and 5 side by side for the tools you already pay for.

When Asana is still the right call

We run a small company, and we would still recommend Asana in several cases:

  • Work crosses many departments. Marketing, operations, legal and product sharing one plan is Asana's strength. Its templates, forms and approvals assume that.
  • You need portfolios and goals at scale. Advanced gives leadership a roll-up view that few tools match.
  • You are past 15 people and growing. Per-seat pricing scales smoothly once the blocks are large compared with your team.
  • Your people already know it. Training cost is real. If your hires arrive knowing Asana, that is worth something.

When a flat-price workspace makes more sense

A bundled or flat plan wins in three situations:

  • You sit just past a seat block. A team of 6, or of 11 to 14, pays for seats it does not use.
  • You pay for several other tools anyway. Asana covers work management. Chat, docs, a CRM, booking links and hiring live elsewhere, each with its own seat price.
  • You want AI costs that do not move. Per-request billing grows with use, and that is hard to budget.

Atrix AI is one option of this kind. It is the product we make, so weigh this paragraph accordingly. Builder is $39 a month for 5 seats with 100 AI runs; Studio is $149 a month for 15 seats with 500 runs; yearly billing is 20% less ($374 and $1,430). Runs reset monthly, and when they are used up the agent waits for the next month or an upgrade rather than adding charges. The same workspace has work and projects with boards and cycles, docs, team chat, a calendar with booking links, a CRM and hiring. The limits: there is no free plan, the 7-day trial needs a card, there are no portfolios or approval workflows comparable to Asana Advanced, and no plan goes above 15 seats, except for founding teams that subscribe before 31 December 2026, who keep unlimited seats. At 6 people, Asana Starter is $109.90 a month for 10 billed seats and Atrix Studio is $149 for 15; at 5 people, Atrix Builder is $39 against $54.95.

The Asana comparison sets out feature by feature where each is stronger, and Asana alternatives covers other tools at the same price point.
