There are seven Trello alternatives worth considering in 2026, and none is best for everyone: ClickUp and Notion have the most generous free plans, Linear is the fastest kanban for a product team, Asana and monday.com are the most structured, Basecamp is the simplest at a flat price, and Atrix AI is the only one that combines kanban, docs, CRM and calendar for a flat price. Trello remains the right choice if a free board is enough.
We started on Trello, like most small teams, then tested each of these seven tools before settling. All prices below were checked on each vendor's pricing page in October 2026.
Trello in October 2026: prices and plans
| Plan | Per user per month (yearly) | Monthly | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0 | 10 collaborators per workspace, 10 boards, 250 automation runs a month |
| Standard | $5 | $6 | Unlimited boards, 1,000 runs, AI capture of to-dos from email, Slack and Teams |
| Premium | $10 | $12.50 | Timeline, calendar, dashboard views; unlimited automation |
| Enterprise | $17.50 | Not shown | That is $210 per user per year |
On AI: Trello's page lists AI task capture from Standard, and mentions summaries, organisation and AI-generated boards in its comparison table without a readable per-plan split. We found no official Atlassian announcement dating a change to paid plans tied to Atlassian Intelligence in 2026; third-party sites mention a price change in February 2026, but they contradict each other. We stick to what the page shows today.

Notion: the kanban that lives inside a document
In Notion, a task database can be viewed as a kanban board, a list, a calendar or a timeline, and every card is a whole page. It is the best Trello alternative for a team that writes: specs, meeting notes, wiki. Plus costs $10 per member per month and Business $20 in October 2026; the free plan works alone and limits pages and blocks from two members. No native sprints or CRM; everything is built. Notion Agent arrives with Business; custom agents use credits at $10 per 1,000.
ClickUp: the widest free plan
ClickUp caps neither users nor tasks on its free plan; it caps storage at 60 MB, spaces at 5 and automations at 100 actions a month. The page shows Unlimited at $7 per user per month yearly ($10 monthly) and Business at $12 ($19), and elsewhere shows a newer lineup with Core at $9 and Business at $17; check which loads. Brain, the AI, costs $9 per user. Everything is there: kanban, docs, sprints, time tracking, whiteboards. The cost is configuration: spaces, folders, lists, fields and views for each.
Asana: the most structured for cross-functional teams
Asana is the Trello alternative most used by marketing and operations teams. Kanban boards exist, but Asana's strength is the list with sections, dependencies and portfolios. Personal is free for 2 users; Starter costs $10.99 per user per month yearly ($13.49 monthly) and Advanced $24.99 ($30.49). AI is paid per request: $0.50 in prepaid packs, $0.60 pay as you go. No native sprints or CRM.
Linear: the fastest kanban for product teams
Linear is Trello for engineering teams, with enforced conventions and a speed the others lack. Issues live in teams, group into projects and are planned in cycles. The free plan allows unlimited members with 250 issues and 2 teams; Basic costs $10 per user per month yearly, Business $16. A Linear Agent appears from the free plan. No real docs, no CRM, no calendar: Linear assumes you have Notion or Google Docs alongside.
monday.com: colourful boards, a 3-seat minimum
monday.com looks like a spreadsheet turned kanban board, with colour-coded status columns and sentence-style automations. The free plan stops at 2 seats and 3 boards; paid plans start at 3 users, so Basic at $9 per seat costs $27 a month minimum, Standard $12 and Pro $19. monday's CRM is a separate product, billed separately. It is the right choice for an operations team of 5 to 15 that wants highly visual boards; less so for two founders.
Basecamp: the simplest, at a flat price
Basecamp has no kanban strictly speaking: to-dos appear as lists, with an optional "cards" view per project. Every project has to-dos, messages, chat, docs and a schedule, and nothing more. Freelancer costs $29 a month for up to 5 people and 3 projects, Pro $79 for up to 10, Pro Plus $99 for up to 15, Pro Unlimited $199 a month billed yearly ($329 monthly) with no limit; the free plan offers 1 project for 3 users. Ideal for an agency whose clients take part in projects.
Atrix AI: kanban, docs, CRM and calendar at a flat price
Atrix AI is the tool we use today. Projects have five views, including a kanban, a backlog, a timeline and cycles of one to four weeks with a goal, burndown and rollover of unfinished tasks, coloured labels and milestones. Pages are edited together live with version history and databases. The CRM has companies, contacts and a five-stage pipeline, with deal values protected by permissions. The calendar offers public booking links synced with Google and Outlook. Add chat, hiring, HR, goals, time tracking, an AI agent that turns a brief into requirements and tasks, and an 85-tool MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor.
The limits: no free plan, the 7-day trial asks for a card; Builder costs $39 a month for 5 seats and Studio $149 for 15, which is expensive at 6 to 12 people next to Trello Standard; no story points; Android in testing. Founding teams that subscribe before 31 December 2026 keep unlimited seats. Atrix imports pages from Markdown, Word and Excel; Trello cards export to CSV on Premium and JSON on any plan.
What you would pay at 3, 5 and 10 people
Monthly with yearly billing, October 2026.
| People | Trello Standard | Notion Plus | ClickUp Unlimited | Asana Starter | Linear Basic | monday Basic | Basecamp | Atrix AI |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 | $15 | $30 | $21 | $32.97 | $30 | $27 | $29 | $39 |
| 5 | $25 | $50 | $35 | $54.95 | $50 | $45 | $29 | $39 |
| 10 | $50 | $100 | $70 | $109.90 | $100 | $90 | $79 | $149 |
Trello is the cheapest in every row. So the question is not price but what you buy with the difference: at five people, the extra $14 for Atrix buys docs, cycles, CRM and calendar; at ten, Atrix Studio is the most expensive option, except for a founding team.
How to choose among the seven
- If a free board is enough, stay on Trello or take ClickUp Free for storage and docs.
- If you write more than you execute, Notion.
- If you are a product team, Linear, with a docs tool alongside.
- If you are an operations or marketing team of 5 to 15, Asana or monday.com, checking monday's 3-seat minimum.
- If your clients take part in projects, Basecamp.
- If you sell and deliver with the same team of 2 to 15, Atrix AI, for the CRM and calendar in the same workspace.
